Real Weddings Recap: A Romantic Estate Wedding
First comes love, then comes the wedding planning! It takes time, but when the Big DayTM finally arrives, it’s amazing to see everything come to life. At Brideside, listening to wedding stories is one of our favorite activities, so we started asking brides about their special days. If you’ve got a #BridesideRealWedding story to share, let us know! We’d love to hear from you — and ugly-cry at your gorgeous wedding photos.
Brideside Bride Katie Ties the Knot at the Ryland Inn!
Katie and her now-husband Steve had a wedding for the books in the rolling hills of a 220-year-old equestrian estate. The inn boasted rustic brick and wood accents that brought warmth and history to the space. By adding soft florals and vibrant greens, the couple brought the elevated boho aesthetic to life. Keep reading to learn more about Katie and Steve’s bright and joyful wedding.
What was the best thing about your wedding day?
Pre-wedding me would never have guessed this, but the ceremony was my favorite part and one of the best moments of my life! I was SO nervous about the ceremony. I have a huge fear of public speaking and had been freaking out about it since Steve proposed!
My bridesmaids are the best — they calmed my nerves by throwing a totally impromptu dance party right before we had to go to the ceremony space. A lot of Lizzo and Beyonce was played, and it really helped loosen me up and distract me from my nervousness! The ceremony itself was perfect. I looked over at my parents after my dad walked me down the aisle, and once Steve took my hands, I magically didn’t feel nervous anymore!
Steve’s vows were amazing. My aunt officiated it, and she gave it her own personal touch. There was so much love in the room; it was really one of the happiest moments ever. Steve and I both burst into tears when we walked out of the ceremony space and were finally alone together because it was such an amazing moment!
Your favorite part about working with Brideside?
I have multiple favorite things about working with Brideside. Huge shoutout to Adriana who really helped me with my vision! I wanted everyone in different colors, textures and patterns, but I wanted it all to look cohesive. With 11 bridesmaids, I didn’t want it to look like an army of girls in all the same dress. I also wanted everyone to feel comfortable and confident and be able to let their own style and personalities shine through.
Adriana totally got it and really helped it come together. I also loved that the girls had the flexibility to order online because not everyone could physically make it into the store. The way they figured out the fitting was perfect, and the selection was amazing! It really was one of my favorite parts about planning the wedding.
Where did you have your ceremony and reception?
The Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey
Give us your best advice for future brides.
My best advice would be to just accept the fact that you’re going to worry and be stressed at points (it’s inevitable, and I hated when people told me not to worry!) At the same time, keep in the back of your mind that all that matters is that you get to celebrate committing yourself to an amazing person that you love and want to spend the rest of your life with. AND you get to celebrate that with everyone you love!
Enjoy the process and the excitement! Remember why you’re doing all of this! The stress and drama seems a lot more manageable once you have that in perspective. But yes, you will ugly cry two days before over something insignificant like your manicure not turning out how you thought it would. It’s normal!
Which vendors did you use? Who was your favorite and why?
Well BRIDESIDE of course! I also loved my hair and makeup providers! Ashley Landry is amazing and did makeup for 15 women (between bridesmaids, brides, moms, aunts) all on her own. Everyone looked amazing, and she did it all with time to spare! Kristen Okaly was my hair person. She is SO talented and personable, and just really understands how to make wedding hair look effortless and dreamy.
My florist Mitali Sen at Day Dream Floral was amazing too; you can see in the pictures she totally understood my vibe and executed it better than I could ever imagine.
My DJ, Eclipse Events, was great. Everyone is still talking about how fun the reception and dance party was!
How did you meet your partner?
We are a classic New Jersey fairytale; we fell in love at the Jersey Shore. I used to get a shore house in Manasquan, NJ every summer with a bunch of friends. One of my friends happened to be a mutual friend of Steve’s and she invited him to do a share in our house the summer of 2015. I was not interested in having a boyfriend that summer, but Steve made his move his first weekend down and by the end of the summer we were officially dating. He proposed three years later on the boardwalk in Manasquan where it all began!
Describe your wedding style in three words.
Rustic, bohemian, classic
How did you ask your bridesmaids to be part of the bridal party?
I full-on proposed to them with a gift that included some cutesy little things including a card that said “My life would SUCC without you” and gave them each a little succulent plant! I couldn’t get all 11 of them together at once to do it so I mostly proposed individually to them over the course of a few months.
What did you do for your bachelorette party?
We went to Montauk in the Hamptons! We had such a fun time. We went to the Wolfer Estate Winery, the beach, some bars, and had plenty of dance parties at the house. So much fun!
What was your first dance song? First song that got everyone on the dance floor?
“Speechless” by Dan+Shay was our first dance song and “Summer” by Calvin Harris was the fun song that everyone came onto the dance floor to! Nobody ever left the dance floor except for speeches and dinner!
Anything fun or a great story you want to add in? (We’re wedding obsessed.)
Our wedding date actually carries really special significance because it’s Steve’s parents’ wedding date too! Steve’s dad passed away a few years ago, so it was really special that we could pick that date. Steve’s mom was so happy and glad she could have another happy memory to think about every July 20th, and so are we!
