Real Weddings Recap: A New Jersey Wedding on the Waterfront
First comes love, then comes the wedding planning! It takes time, but when the Big DayTM finally arrives, it’s amazing to see everything come to life. At Brideside, listening to wedding stories is one of our favorite activities, so we started asking brides about their special days. If you’ve got a #BridesideRealWedding story to share, let us know! We’d love to hear from you — and ugly-cry at your gorgeous wedding photos.
Brideside Bride Courtney Ties the Knot with a Romantic Riverview
The New Jersey waterfront is a beautiful backdrop for any formal affair. Courtney and her now-husband Matt knew this to be true when they celebrated their marriage overlooking the marina at Shrewsbury Bay. Their charming East Coast wedding was everything a classic bride could hope for: elegant and undeniably romantic. Find out more about their scenic affair and maybe get some ideas for your own classy wedding!
What was the best thing about your wedding day?
My favorite thing was how ‘in the moment’ I felt. All the planning came together, and I was able to enjoy each moment with Matt and those dearest to me who I love.
Your favorite part about working with Brideside?
How simple it was. Two of my bridesmaids needed different dresses and they were able to get them right away without a question from our amazing stylist.
Where did you have your ceremony and reception?
Give us your best advice for future brides.
Don’t get stressed over the small things! Really try to enjoy each moment, even the stressful planning and input from your family members.
Which vendors did you use? Who was your favorite and why?
My photographer, Kayla Coleman, was my absolute favorite vendor. She is now like a sister to me. She helped me get through difficult decisions (like which robe my bridesmaids would wear based on how it would photograph) and was always so kind. She didn’t make the relationship feel like a business transaction. I love vendors who make it feel that way (just like Adriana with Brideside).
How did you meet your partner?
We met on Bumble! It took us a few weeks to get a date on the books, but we went out for drinks at a cocktail bar in NYC and then Matt took me to another bar for a little competitive shuffleboard. Ever since that day, we didn’t spend more than a few days apart. A month later, we took a road trip down South together, which allowed us to grow even more as a couple. From there, we planned countless trips, endured some sad times, and even moved in together after Matt got a job upstate. It was an amazing ride and now will be an even better one as husband and wife!
Describe your wedding style in 3 words.
Classic, timeless, romantic
Does your family have any wedding traditions? What are they?
We really embrace being together during special times like this and just enjoying the moment! Especially dancing! We danced all night.
How did you ask your bridesmaids to be part of the bridal party?
I sent each one a very personal card. Simple, handwritten, with all the reasons they are so special. To me, that was the most meaningful.
What did you do for your bachelorette party?
We went down to Charleston, South Carolina. I went to school in the south and all the girls came to visit me my senior year. That was one of the most fun trips we’ve ever had together and I wanted to relive it again in a fun, beachy area!
What was your first dance song? First song that got everyone on the dance floor?
I Can’t Help Falling in Love by Bocelli. We saw him play in our first year of dating on a whim! Take Me Home Tonight was our last and best song (IMO)!
Anything fun or a great story you want to add in? (We’re wedding obsessed.)
We discovered shortly after we started dating that Matt’s grandpa and my grandpa were lab partners at medical school together! They were able to reunite after 50+ years at our wedding. What a small world.
Another fun surprise came when we got to our venue. My dad built a custom sign that was floating in the water and lit up at night. It took him months to build and tow in by boat. The thoughtfulness behind that gift was everything we could ask for.
